Feeling funny lately. To quote P.D. James (since I'm reading Children of Men), I've been experiencing "a weight of vague unease, not heavy enough to be called anxiety, but a mild unfocused depression, like the last tatters of an unremembered but disagreeable dream."
I think it is the result of having several highly anticipated events come to pass. Finished my thesis, graduated and saw the Police. The past year has been focused on the thesis, it has been constantly on my mind. The past six years have been all about school, with not a lot of thought given to what comes next, except the basic plan of doing and MLIS. The Police concert has been the treat I've been looking forward to since February. Now these are over, and I don't know what to do with myself. Feel very purposeless and at loose ends. Maybe I should have anticipated this, but I didn't. I thought, at least where school was concerned, that I'd feel a fairly high level of euphoria. Which I'm not. I feel the opposite.
Thankfully, I have a good friend visiting until next week, and another visit to look forward to at the end of the month.
I did have a really fantastic time in Vancouver, by the way. Managed to squeeze a lot of stuff (and food!) into two days. If you are ever there, Cafe Artigiano has the most amazing coffee. And we went to an incredible Lebanese restaurant, the name of which escapes me. Karen? Help?

It's the Police they give you that feeling. Nice head shot of O its the first step.
Congrats on the grad, I was playing scrabble with a group of librarians off the west side highway last night.
Hope you are well B

It really is those post-event blues, I betcha. Like postpartum depression (or post-orgasm sadness in men!) I prescribe ice cream and sitting around in the sun. :-)
I have felt depressed after both Cure concerts that I went to. It's so sad when you don't have that event to look forward to.
As for school, I can't relate. I was so happy to be down each time and couldn't wait to get outta there and start working.
It's Mona's on Davie -- but there's a few locations around town.
I always feel completely lost after an application deadline, film festival, production... But often because no one's feeding me. (As per last night's conversation.) I think the crash is why we're supposed to aim for an equilibirum: not too happy, not too sad.
I feel sad after happy events have come and gone too (e.g. vacations). I hate the feeling.
I think the only cure is to start looking forward to something else. :)
Mmmm. Mona's. Thanks Karen! Looked up their menu online today and drooled on my keyboard.
Well, I do have my dear friend coming to visit in a few weeks, but that doesn't seem to be quite enough... will try ice cream and see if that makes the difference.
I can't hear the word "Lebanese" and not think of that TV show or movie or whatever it was where people are too shy to say "Lesbian" so they say things like "She's Lebanese, Joe." "Oh, I see."
*I* can't see the word 'Lebanese' without thinking of Lebanese Blonde by The Thievery Corporation! :P
