tragedy!

I have been drinking out of my favourite mug from Phillipe's (Home of the French Dip) since I went there with Tracy, David and assorted other friends 9 years ago when we were all in L.A. to celebrate Tracy and David getting hitched. I love this mug. It is the perfect size and weight. Coffee doesn't go cold in it. I'm more awake after drinking from it. I feel nostalgic holding it in my hands... both for the time I spent in L.A. and for a time I never belonged to.

But this morning, when I took my little friend out of the sink to wash it, I discovered a fatal crack. Tears welled in my eyes. "Noooooooooo!" I cried.

I see this as a bad omen, an ill start to the New Year. Or perhaps an ill end to the last year. I was going to post about the holidays and how lovely things were, but my day has been ruined. You'll have to wait until I recover emotionally from my loss. Maybe check back on the weekend.

Oh dear! I'm truly sorry for your loss. But perhaps it isn't a symbol of a bad end or a bad start? Maybe it is a symbol of change or transition or of a time for a looking forward or or or (okay, I'm having a hard time thinking of positive spins.) But you don't have to say goodbye forever, you could keep it to hold pens or plant a plant?

When I moved into my new office a few weeks ago, a glass container full of water and glass fish that I'd had on my other desk for years shattered into itty bitty bits 2 seconds after I set it down on the new desk. I was a little freaked - did the previous office occupant leave a curse behind? But it doesn't seem so. I went out and got another glass container for my glass fish, and they seem fine (glass fish are pretty resilient.) ;-) And nothing else in the office has broken. (so far)

It'll be a happy new year!

That is a mighty nice mug. And the nostalgia is hard to beat. But my cup half full comment is - at least it didn't smash into a hundred pieces. Perhaps Tracy can send you a replacement?

A trip to Value Village is on order!
May get some vintage Bridge Drive Inn
mugs!
Sorry for the loss when I break one of my ceramic pieces I'm happy because shards are the ultimate destiny of all ceramics. You could bury it in the corner of your yard for future archeologists to excavate!
Could be a future thesis, "Migratory patterns of early 21th century coffee drinkers"
Love the food pics they look delish!
