The City of Brandon Fair Trade Awareness Week

The Mayor's Office of the City of Brandon officially proclaimed April 23-29, 2006 as the first Brandon Fair Trade Awareness Week (BFTAW). During this week the community of Brandon will be encouraged to engage in the fair trade movement. BFTAW is a result of The Marquis Project’s campaign for fair trade support from the City of Brandon, which was initiated during National Fair Trade Weeks 2005.

This is the first year Brandon will be celebrating Fair Trade and raising awareness amongst consumers. The Marquis Project has planned the following events to engage the community and raise awareness for the movement.

BFTAW was kicked off one day early by setting up a Fair Trade information booth at the Earth Day Celebrations, April 22nd at the Brandon University’s Brodey Building.

Throughout BFTAW The Marquis Project’s shop, Worldly Goods, will be providing free samples of fair trade coffee, tea, and chocolate and will be educating customers on fair trade. Store hours are 10am-5:30pm Monday-Friday and 10am-5pm on Saturday.

The Marquis Project is also organizing a Southwest Manitoban Fair Trade Market within the exhibit/food court area of Rural Forum at the Keystone Centre April 28th/29th 2006. The market will include local businesses who sell fair trade products and prairie distributors who support fair trade.
